Buick Used Cars- The Rainier

The General Motors Corporation back in 2002 decided it needed to design a new midsize SUV and that meant replacing the out dated (but popular) GMC Envoy and the Chevy Trailblazer with the new Buick Rainier. Buick used cars like the Rainier are a much bigger automobile than the Trailblazer and the Envoy and this translates into a more powerful cultivated engine under the hood. The Mid-size SUV segment of the auto industry is competitive which means the Rainier competes against the likes of the Cadillac SRX Acura MDX and the Lexus RX just to name a few. My research will be on the Buick Rainier as a used vehicle to look at.
The Buick Rainier is a 5 passenger mid-size SUV that does not offer a seven seat option. The Rainier is a four speed automatic transmission that offers rear-wheel or all-wheel drive with traction control. The Rainier comes standard with ABS brakes, antiskid control, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, Onstar and dual zone climate controls. Other options available for the Buick Rainier are heated front seats, adjustable pedals, DVD entertainment, Navigation system, rollover deployment and curtain side airbags.
There are several different fuel statistics from the years the Rainier was in production (2002 to 2007). The six cylinder all wheel drive had a fuel rating of 15.6-liters per 100km, for city driving and 10.6-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. The V8, all wheel drive had a fuel rating 17-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 12.4-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. As you can see the Buick Rainier’s Fuel Stats aren’t the greatest when you compare them to some of their competition in the mid-size SUV marketplace.
There are several different engine sizes from the years 2002 to 2007. All models had the six cylinder, 4.2 litre engine (with DOHC) and this produces 275 horsepower with 275 pounds per feet of torque. There was also an option to have a V8, 5.3-litre engine and this produces 300 horsepower with 330 pounds per feet of torque.
Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of the Buick Rainier as a used vehicle:
1- A leading online consumer watchdog reports that there are problems with the four-wheel driving platform not working properly. This would be related with either the electronic system (not talking properly with the four wheel drive transmission) or bad gears.
2- There are problems with bad cylinder sleeves in the six-cylinder engine.
3- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Buick Rainier an average rating for crash tests done to it.
